Big Momma's House 2
|
I have to admit that this is one movie that I was a little apprehensive
about watching. For me, comedy sequels tend to be such a let down. And
being no fan of Martin Lawrence didn't help with my Apprehensiveness. He
tends to be a little too silly. So when I began to giggle more and more
it was a little surprising. Go figure!
Big Momma's House 2 picks up after Malcolm Turner (Martin
Lawrence) Learns that his mentor and ex-partner has been murdered. Now
to catch you up on what Malcolm Turner has been up between "Big Momma's
House" and Big Momma's House 2. Malcolm left the FBI after winning his
dream girl, Sherri Turner (underrated Beauty Nia Long). He has promised
his new pregnant wife that they would live a simple life. I think you
can see where this is going.... I sure did.
He tells the wife he is going to a safety convention and then and course
goes undercover as a fat elderly black woman Hattie Mae Pierce a.k.a.
Big Momma to find the killer of his ex-partner. Big Momma Finagled her
way into the position of nanny for an uptight suburban couple who have
three interesting children. There's Andrew the three year old who does
not talk and as some odd jumping habits. Then there's Carrie the
cheerleader who can't cheer and has no ideal that she sucks! Finally
there is Molly the Fake Goth girl who is trying her best to freak her
parents out, It hardly works. The Father is the connection to the case
that Malcolm is trying to break. Even though the Mom has little to no
time for these children she has a strict schedule for them to adhere and
this is where the Nanny comes in. Trying to get around doing chores and
handling the children, keeping his wife in the dark about what he is
doing and solving crime has this nanny's hands full.
Now the plot of this film is very lame and most of time I could remember
much about the bad guys or what or why they were even there. Hattie Mae
Pierce showed up enough and made me giggle and at times out right laugh
out loud, that I was able to get though the weak storyline with no
problem. They even work in a spoof of the Bo Derek beach scene from the
Blake Edwards directed Movie 10 from 1979. Anyone born before the
early Seventies may get a kick out that. This Character reminds me my
own Insane grandmother, God rest her soul. If it's coming up, it's
coming out, which means they say whatever is on their tongue. For some
people that can be a little shocking or funny depends on your sense of
humor.
The special features are hardly worth mentioning. There is a commentary
with Direct John Whitesell and producer David Friendl and actor Zachary
Levi. and some deleted and extended scenes that really were
appropriately removed from the film to due to time constraints, THANK
GOD!!!!!
Director John Whitesell has not directed any feature films prior to
Big Momma's House 2 and probably explains why for me it was just a
small step above a made for TV movie. This film is far from greatness
but then it doesn't belong in the same pile of rubbish with any thing
starring our reigning trailer park beauty turned singer/actress Brittany
Spears. So if you have a spare 90 minutes or so it's worth seeing.
