I infer most of what I think about a manga from the cover. Art and title play a big role in whether I would pick up a book or not. Now I know that’s a bad thing to do, heck they even have a proverb against doing it, but I still make quick judgments. I saw this cover and I made a snap judgment. Chick manga. You know the type. Love, betrayal, forgiveness, drama, blah blah blah. But luckily I was surprised!

This manga had a great storyline. It’s about a divorced father and his partner at their law firm.  They were best friends from college, and know each others quirks. When out with his son, that he has partial custody over, Keita meets a girl with amnesia on a rollercoaster. He inexplicably offers her a job. She takes him up on that, and soon is working with them. Seems pretty run of the mill if you ask me. But what I really liked are the clients the firm picks up.

All of them are fully developed characters, with rich pasts and wonderful story arcs. The housewife trying anything to get a record deal, the deaf songwriter, all are full deep characters. You can see their motivations and thoughts. But most of all you feel a deep connection to them. Rarely have I seen such great story telling and attention to detail on secondary characters.

The art is good, nothing too spectacular. The composition of the comic is done well, the pages flow, but nothing really stands out. I wanted to find something art wise to just jump out and smack me, but sadly it didn’t come. I wish the art was as developed as the characters tended to be.

One thing that bugged me is that key, the girl with amnesia didn’t mind that she couldn’t remember who she was or what she was doing here. I wanted her lack of a past to play more of a role in the story line. Sadly the most I tended to get was an “Oh I am remembering something…” then no more is spoken about it. What the heck guys? A wonderful plot device is right there. You put it in, now just use it!

This is a must have if you like shows like Law and Order, where the secondary characters take the spotlight most of the time. With wonderful storylines and decent art, defiantly check this out. If you can get past the title that is.
