Katamari Damacy Original Soundtrack
|
Katamari Damacy; it's one of those games that is beyond
quirky, and there were those that I'm sure were worried that it simply
wouldn't catch on here. Face it, the American gaming public is picky,
and anything that is a little different tends to be overlooked or
frowned upon. I can testify to the fact though that those that have read
the review of the game on our site or have been forced to sit down and
play it have loved it. It's not just the game that's addictive though,
it's the music, and I simply can't enough of it myself. So, the solution
is simple: import the soundtrack.
I own quite a few game soundtracks and have paid a pretty penny at times
to get them. It can pay off at times, other times it's a disappointment,
but for Katamari Damacy it's a collection of music I may have very well
paid more for regardless of the price tag. The music is just as catchy
and addictive to listen to, as the game is to play. If you've played the
game though, then you are already well aware of the fact that the
soundtrack tends to jump all over the place, but it works, and it works
well.
Some of these tracks though you may have heard other places recently. "Katamari
on the Rocks" for example made an appearance as a bonus track in Namco's
Taiko: Drum Master, another game that I will urge you to pick up. But,
hearing it in either of the games or on the soundtrack is great, but I
can't say that it's the standout song here. There are a few songs that
really are heads and shoulders above the rest. "The Moon and the
Prince," is a strange, electronic Japanese rap song that is quite
entertaining to listen to, but then there's the ultra-cute "Lonely
Rolling Star" with those adorable vocals that is also a great bit.
Honestly though, if I were to pick one track that I had to listen to
over and over again, "Katamari Mambo" would be the one. Well, it might
actually be "A Crimson Rose and a Gin Tonic" since it has that nice,
jazzy feeling about it, and it's odd and catchy to hear Japanese lyrics
sang over music like this. But, then there is also another track, "Katamaritaino"
that holds a very special place for me. Let's put it this way; for the
most part, there isn't a single bad track on the disc. There are those
that are a little annoying at times, especially the one that brings back
memories of the King telling me about the next place I was visiting, his
package starring me boldly in the face, but that can easy be tracked
past to avoid negative memories.
The Katamari Damacy original soundtrack is a very eclectic collection of
music that is enjoyable from start to finish. If you love the game, and
if you're reading this then there's no doubt that you do, then you're
going to enjoy the soundtrack just as much. It may have a bit of a steep
price that goes along with, but since the game is relatively
inexpensive, after buying the soundtrack, it's almost like paying for a
high end title, but getting a little something extra. Buy the
soundtrack, you won't be sorry.
