There is so much talent in the band Droid, that’s it’s too bad it is wasted on lack of originality in the songwriting throughout the CD and the mixing being muddy. The uninspiring Helmet-style of playing that Droid provides gets old and annoying rather quickly. I bothered to sit through the whole CD once, trying to resist any and all temptations to skip to the next track and give the CD a fair try. After a week or so I plugged it in again willing to give it a second try. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood, maybe it was the stereo…..maybe it was just something besides the CD. And to no avail, it was nothing else but the CD.

The low tuned guitars are the most audible out of the muddy riverbanks of the CD. Duke the driving force on the bass guitar, and Bruce and Jaime on the six-strings deliver short, quick Helmet-like chops have some nice off beat breaks to it, but unfortunately, like Helmet, it is overused way too much and starts to get on your nerves after a song or two. These licks mixed in with some other dynamic styles could really give Droids next album(If there ever is one) a real uplift.

Nick pounds out some catchy drumming patterns, but unfortunately what he does with his skill doesn’t make up for the lack of drive behind the guitars. The bass drum has no oomph to it, and sounds flat and dense, almost like it was being played underwater.

James doesn’t lend the band any originality on vocals either. Disturbed style singing/screaming is the style he delivers. Delivers it well, but it’s been done before, and nothing he does on the album really stands out.

Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t some horrible, OMG band. It’s just unfortunately, feels and sounds like it was done with some cheap mixer. And I think the song writing can be stronger. There are some great licks on the album, but unfortunately it starts to feel like the same lick over and over by the end of the album.
