Iperyt - Particular Hatred

I’m into lots of different metal, though black metal isn’t necessarily something that is usually quite to my liking. There are a few bands here and there, like Bathory (but how can you not like them), some Emperor tracks, but for the most part, it’s just not my thing. That however was until I heard the future of black metal.

Poland’s Ipreyt have taken metals dark underbelly in a new direction and made it their own with their debut EP Particular Hatred and the sonic assault is nothing short of devastating. Featuring two members of Infernal War, Herr Warcrimer and Zyklon (though now taking the respective names People Hater and Abuser in this incarnation) Ipreyt blends black metal guitar riffs, blistering electronic drum beats, and death ridden lyrics into an aggressive style that falls between black metal, cyber grind, and industrial, and it works. It works quite well actually.

The EP only has four tracks but by the end on the vicious ear assault you’ll find that either you love the band or you despise the different direction the band is trying to take their music into, and I for one absolutely am impressed with the cataclysm of social hatred and brutal riffs that is unleashed in just a matter of minutes. Unlike a few other electronic metal bands I have heard, the mix on this disc is outstanding. The lyrics can be heard, the guitars don’t sound like a muddy blur, and the sampled movie quotes aren’t too distorted or hidden behind layers of effects that make them impossible to determine what they are.

The stand out tracks of the four here are . . . all of them! Every song on Particular Hatred is worth listening to . . . again, and again, and again. Though of all of htem, my favorites would be the title track, Particular Hatred as well as the final cut, Experimentum Crucis (mainly because I love the heavy synth drums and the guitar riffs) And the lyrics? Well, they basically range on what I feel just about every day Just a sample from Particular Hatred sums it all up.

I will fucking vanish every single trace of you
Eradicate your joy, your pleasure and your truth
Wipe out your dreams and gains from the past
‘Cause I am here to demolish you!!

The band has a new, full-length CD due out in 2006 which, after hearing the two tracks posted on their website, should be nothing short of incredible. Enlist in the revolution. Ipreyt’s electronic black metal onslaught is only just beginning, and it starts with Particular Hatred.

Join the warfare!
