China’s history. On Dec. 17th and 18th, GGL will stream live from
Shanghai coverage of China Internet Gaming’s National Competition
2005 Grand Finals AND the WarCraft 3 International All Stars
Invitational. GGL, which has obtained an approval from the Chinese
Government, will now be able to give its viewers a rare,
behind-the-scenes look at the proceedings.
The event, the largest competition ever held for Chinese gamers,
will also mark the first time a video game tournament will be
broadcast live from China by a U.S. media company. The broadcast
team from GGL subsidiary “Inside the Game” (iTG), led by Stuart
“TosspoT” Saw and Paul “Redeye” Chaloner, will provide exclusive
video and audio reporting for the competition for GGL.com.
Intel Corporation has signed on as the official sponsor of the
broadcast, marking the first time a major company has sponsored a
live videogame broadcast from China. Shanghai Telcom, one of China’s
leading telcoms, has also signed on as a sponsor and NVIDIA
Corporation will provide high speed bandwidth for the broadcast.
As a result of this sponsorship participation, the streams will be
provided free to GGL Members; new Members can still sign up for free
at GGL.com before the broadcast and catch all the action.
The CIG Tournament is officially sanctioned by the China Ministry of
Information Industry’s People’s Post & Telecommunication News Group
and is supported by the China Ministry of Culture and the China
National Sports Bureau.
“This is one of the most exciting things to ever happen to
pro-gaming and GGL,” said Ted Owen, co-founder and chairman of GGL.
“By having the support of the Chinese government and our partners at
China Internet Gaming, we are able to bring groundbreaking new
entertainment to the world. China is the new frontier in gaming and
we plan on being the eyes and ears of everyone who can’t be in
Shanghai.”
CIG is the largest competition by far in the country, covering 30 of
the 32 provinces of China and more than 10,000 cyber cafes in its
promotional activities. Each province conducts its qualifier in
collaboration with the top cafes in each province. This year, 150
top cyber cafes staged the qualifiers for more than 300,000 gamers.
The games for this year’s event include “WarCraft III: The Frozen
Throne,” “Counter-Strike 1.6” and “Nokia-Sina.com: Gear Assault.”
