LOS ANGELES — November 17, 2006 — For Immediate Release — From Oscar-nominated director Byambasuren Davaa, the Academy Awardİ nominated director of THE STORY OF THE WEEPING CAMEL, comes THE CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG, a thought provoking mix of documentary and drama that tells the story of the age-old bond between man and dog.
THE CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG rolls over for DVD shelves February 13th in stores across the nation from Tartan Video.

A nomadic Mongolian family find themselves in disagreement when the oldest daughter, Nansaa, finds a small dog and brings it home. Believing that it is responsible for attacking his sheep, her father won’t allow her to keep it. When the family to move on, Nansaa must decide whether to defy her father and take her new friend with them.

THE CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG has barked up multiple awards including Best Direction Women & Film at the Mar del Plata in 2006 and the Golden German Film Awards, the Palm Dog at the Cannes Film Festival, the Signis Award and the 2005 Golden Starfish Award. The film was also an official selection of the Berlin International Film Festival, London International Film Festival and Mosaiques London Film Festival on its way to becoming a classis film festival favorite for critics and audiences alike.

On how the film will be received by American audiences, director Byambasuren Davaa says, “I think the film succeeds because the Western audience see themselves in this film. We once had the ability to communicate with nature. Somewhere we have these primordial signals within us. And a Western audience can recognize that.”

Presented in Mongolian with English and Spanish subtitles as well as in English Language track, THE CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG is presented in anamorphic widescreen, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and DTS Surround Sound 5.1. Special DVD features include an interview with the director, the original theatrical trailer and trailers of Tartan Video’s upcoming releases.
