From the director of The Story of The Weeping Camel, The Cave of the Yellow Dog will come to US theaters Winter 2006 from Tartan Films

“Strikingly beautiful…Deserves an Oscar”
-Evening Standard

LOS ANGELES — Aug. 16, 2006 — For Immediate Release — From Oscar-nominated director Byambasuren Davaa, THE STORY OF THE WEEPING CAMEL, comes THE CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG, a thought provoking mix of documentary and drama that tells the touching story of family united through the daughter’s poignant love of a dog.

A Mongolian nomad family find themselves in disagreement when the oldest daughter, Nansal, finds a dog and brings it home. Believing it is responsible for attacking his sheep, her father refuses to allow her to keep it. When it’s time for the family to move on, Nansal must decide whether to defy her father and take her new friend with them.

Winner for Best Direction Women & Film at the Mar del Plata in 2006 and the Golden German Film Awards; Official Selection on the Berlin and London International Film Festival, THE CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG opens in New York on November 10th.

Hamish McAlpine, the founder and owner of Tartan Films, who are celebrating twenty one years of distributing films in the UK, launched Tartan USA in 2004 with an eclectic and controversial slate of films from established auteurs and up-and-coming filmmakers. Previous Tartan film releases include 2004 Cannes Grand Jury Prize Winner OLDBOY, the critically-acclaimed Romanian Oscar entry THE DEATH OF MR LAZARESCU and the final film in Park Chanwook’s “Vengeance Trilogy,” LADY VENGEANCE. Upcoming theatrical releases include 2005 Cannes Jury Prize Winner, Andrea Arnold’s RED ROAD, French filmmaker Denis Dercourt’s THE PAGE TURNER, cutting edge Hong Kong helmer Johnnie To’s TRIAD ELECTION and Danish Director Anders Morgenthaler’s half-animated/half-live-action PRINCESS.
