Yeah folks, this is the one and only Akira, the one we all know and love, lovingly presented to us PSP owners by the good folks at Geneon on UMD for our portable viewing pleasure.

If you have not seen Akira, chances are you have never seen any anime at all, otherwise there is just no way you could have missed this one. For you, here is a brief recount of the movie.

The year is 2019; the place is Neo-Tokyo, the original Tokyo having been destroyed 31 years prior during WWIII by a powerful psychic called Akira. Tetsuo and Kaneda, who ride around on their supped up motorcycles generally being jerks, are racing their bikes against a rival gang when Tetsuo wrecks and is injured. Rather than being taken by a regular ambulance to a regular hospital, however, Tetsuo is grabbed up by some military operatives. It turns out that Tetsuo’s own budding psychic powers bear a strong resemblance to those of Akira before him. For more about the movie, see the full DVD review here.

Akira became a phenomenon due to its involved story and incredible animation, so a UMD release is a no brainer. The video transfer to the UMD is very, very clean, with bright, beautiful visuals and almost no visual ghosting. Geneon managed to do the classic justice with a superb UMD transfer is worthy of the original, and certainly a must buy for fans.

Anime fans - you know Akira, you love Akira, you need to have this UMD. Go add Akira to your UMD collection right now. Those of you who have never seen it, hit the link above to the full review on this site, then go do those other things. There is just no reason not to own this masterpiece.
